Game Schedule -- Yes there are 26 games against some fun and good teams! I will provide maps to fields for away games.

Practice Schedule -- First Practice Tuesday from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at McMurray. We will be splitting practice times between McMurray and VHS. Please watch this closely so that you don't show up at the wrong field. If it rains practice will be under the covered play area at McMurray. Please make sure the boys have both cleats and tennis shoes just in case. If you didn't know and need to buy cleats -- metal cleats are allowed.

VHS Baseball Schedules -- I've attached a spreadsheet that lists the games for both the High School Varsity and Jr. Varsity baseball teams. Please encourage the boys to attend some of the games!
Please mark these on your calendars. If you have a conflict please let me know.

Other Information:
Protection: Every player must wear a protective cup to practice and to all games!

Mandatory Parent Meeting (one parent is fine!) -- Thursday evening from 7 to 7:20 p.m. immediately following practice.

UW vs WSU baseball game on April 1 -- Instead of practice I thought this would be fun for the team! Parents I'll need a few volunteers to go with us! I'll let you know how much tickets will cost.

$20 -- Please bring $20 to the parent meeting to pay for your son's team sweatshirt and practice shirt. If you write a check please make it payable to me. If you find funds tight, just let me know and I'll take care of it.

I had been contacted about participating in a pre-season tournament, but evidently that didn't get organized so we'll just stick with our game schedule!

My daughter and I had our best conversations while playing catch, pepper, and pitching in the yard. I am Jay Hammond VYBS Director of Fastpitch Letting you know fastpitch signups are open. After a second year of West Seattle coming to Vashon for half our games their coaches are pleased with our facilities, spirit, and enjoy the outing.
Does your daughter have multiple spring interests that make fastpitch difficult? If so, we are providing a program for your family. Here is the plan:

5-6yr olds play T ball with the boys.

7,8, & 9yr. old island development league will have open, clinic format practices 4 days a week starting March 8th, so come as often as you can. Later several small teams will break out for games. This approach is for maximum flexibility giving every girl a chance to participate. All other age groups are also invited.

10yr. old travel team will be fielded if enough skilled players are available. Otherwise players will be distributed among other teams. Early practice opens with the development league on March 8th until teams are established.

11,12yr. old travel team plays half their games off island. Early practice opens with the development league on March 8th until teams are established.

13,14 & 15yr. old travel team plays half their games off island. Early practice opens with the development league on March 8th until teams are established.

Free Pre-season Clincs

Free pre-season clinics have started. These are great for getting the rust off and sharpening your skills before season officially starts.
Players will go through all areas of hitting, fielding, baserunning. Pitchers and catchers will also have time to work on their skills.

Skills, Drills, help and what to do

Draft night and the mandatory coaches meeting will be held at the high school commons, DATE TBD

Draft
Split into 2 age groups
Younger age or 1st year players rated 1-5 (5 being top player)
Older age players rated 1-5 (5 being top player)

Draw names out of hat for drafting order.
Order goes 1-2-3-4-5-6-6-5-4-3-2-1

Older rated 5's are distributed first, then 4s, 3s and so on. Then Younger rated 5,s are distribted, then 4s, 3s, 2s, and finally 1s.

Coaches must make their kid first pick in their rating pool. ie Coaches kid gets rated a 3. Coach must make his first 3 rated draft pick his kid.

After the draft coaches will add their numbers for younger and older kids. The numbers should be similur for all teams. It will be recommended by the League Director that any totally disparate numbers are evened out.

Practice Times
Practice schedule times for each team will be made at the draft table, usually, before the draft begins. The league director will insure that each team will be guaranteed one of their first choices of practice times. It is expected that coaches will be understanding of limited field locations and coach work schedules. It is hoped that everyone will get at least one of their preferred practice times and be flexible and cooperative in assigning subsequent times and locations.

In the event that no determination can be easily reached, practice times will be determined by draw. The league director will put head coach names in a hat and draw for position. Each coach will make their first selection, then repeat for next round if necessary.

VYBS uses responsible youth to umpire games at the Pinto, Mustang and Bronco levels. We do pay a nominal stipend for each game that you ump! We offer free training with a certified umpire who will work with applicants in 2-3 training sessions. Players who are in their second year of Mustang or higher are eligible to tryout.

If you enjoy baseball and want to earn money, this is for you! Come and learn to be the only person on a baseball field involved in every single pitch of the game!

To Qualify as an Umpire:
* You must attend at least one clinic
* You must be second year Mustang or higher
* You must love the game of baseball

BYLAWS
Article 1: Registration

Vashon Youth Baseball and Softball (VYBS) shall register its teams in any leagues or organizations by a vote of the Board of Directors.

Article 2: Purposes

The purposes of the VYBS are as follows:

A. To allow all youth, regardless of ability, to fully participate in baseball and softball leagues;

B: To emphasize fun, teamwork, good sportsmanship and effort in all leagues; and

C: To teach fundamental baseball and softball skills to all players for their enjoyment.

Article 3: Leagues

The Board of Directors shall determine, by Febuary, the various leagues for the upcoming season.

All arrangements for off-island play must be approved by the League President (of the league that the team plays in) and the Board of Directors of VYBS.

Article 4: Officer and Resposibilities

The officers and their areas of responsibility shall be as follows:

A. President

The President shall have the authority enumerated elsewhere in these articles and have responsibility for all areas not given to the other officers.

B. First Vice President

The First Vice President shall be the player representative and as such responsable for sign-ups of players and shall guarantee that all players are placed on teams and givin an opportunity to fully participate in games. He/She shall assume the duties of President when the President is not available.

C. Second Vice President

The Second Vice President shall be responsible for equiptment and uniforms for all leagues.

D. Secretary

The Secretary shall schedule all meetings of VYBS, keep minutes of those meetings, and send minutes of the previous meeting to Board Members.

E. Treasurer

The Treasurer shall prepare a proposed budget for VYBS by the first Board Meeting in Febuary for approval by the Board of Directors. He/She shall also be responsible for obtaining sponsors for all VYBS teams, collection of funds and payment of bills.

All of the areas of responsability set forth above may be delegated by the officer to other persons subject to the review and approval of that officer.

Article 5: Membership

All parents of players who participate in VYBS, determined by their child's play in the previous year or in anticipation of the coming year; or, any person serving as a Board of Director.

Article 6: Board of Directors

VYBS shall be operated by a ten person Board of Directors, which shall include the five officers described herein.

The composition of the Board of Directors should roughly represent the various leagues of play.

Any vacancies can be filled by the President upon approval of the Board of Directors.

Removal of a Board of Director must be voted upon by the Board of Directors.

The presence of five Board of Directors shall constitute a quorum.

Article 7: Election of Board of Directors and Officers

The Board of Directors and Officers shall be elected at a General Membership Meeting to be held at the begining of November each year.

Notice of the meeting shall be published in the Beachcomber during the preceding month, with at least one week's notice.

Article 8: Expenditures

All expenditures must be approved by both President and the Treasurer as necessary and within budget.

Expenditures beyond 10% of the budgeted amounts must be approved by the Board of Directors, except:

The Treasurer is given a $500. discretionary fund to cover unforseen or non-budgeted costs. Approval must be given by the President and the expenses reported at the next Board of Directors meeting.

Article 9: Amendments

These bylaws may be amended by the Board of Directors.

Article 10: Effective Date

These bylaws become effective upon a majority vote of members attending the November General Membership Meeting.

Summer Leagues

Summer League teams are put together during the middle to end of regular season. These are travel teams that play in off-island tournaments. A 10u and 12U teams are formed based on interest and volunteer help.
